SANTO DOMINGO.- El partido Fuerza del Pueblo (FP) puso sus técnicos y profesionales del área de salud a disposición del Gobiwerno para emprender acciones que eviten que el país sea afectado de manera drástica con el cólera.
El doctor Ramón Alvarado, secretario de Salud de esa organización opositora, dijo en rueda de prensa que el cólera es una amenaza sobre la cual el Gobierno «se ha mostrado indiferente y las autoridades del sector salud improvisan de manera constante».
En ese sentido, sugirió actuar rápido para mantener bajo control la propagación de ese virus, «que está afectando de manera contundente a Haití, segando la vida a cientos de personas, lo que constituye una grave amenaza para el país», por lo que enfatizó que «debemos actuar con rapidez para evitar la propagación de este mal en el país”.
«Es preocupante la situación de vulnerabilidad de la República Dominicana ante la dramática epidemia del cólera que vive el vecino país de Haití», declaró.
Explicó que «el cólera es una infección diarreica aguda causada por la ingesta de agua o alimentos contaminados con la bacteria vibrio cholerae, que se propaga con rapidez y cuyos principales signos y síntomas son diarrea acuosa, nausea, vómitos, deshidratación de moderada a grave que puede producir shock y muerte en pocas horas. Tiene letalidad superior al 50%».
Citó como uno de los principales factores de riesgo para la propagación del cólera los movimientos de población, por la migración, el turismo y el comercio internacional. Además, el déficit de agua potable, la falta de un adecuado sistema de alcantarillado, los problemas de saneamiento ambiental y el hacinamiento.
“Ante la indiferencia de las autoridades gubernamentales, exigimos que se asuma como una realidad la presencia del cólera en nuestro país y proponemos la elaboración de un plan integral e interinstitucional que garantice la participación de todos los actores del Sistema Nacional de Salud”, aseveró.
Entre las acciones para controlar la propagación del cólera, sugirió:
1. Fortalecimiento del sistema de vigilancia epidemiológica a nivel nacional.
2. Incremento de las medidas de vigilancia en puertos, aeropuertos y pasos fronterizos.
3. Garantías del abastecimiento de agua potable y mejoramiento del saneamiento básico.
4. Supervisión y vigilancia de la preparación, distribución y venta de alimentos y bebidas.
5. Capacitación del personal de salud público y privado, en actualización sobre Cólera.
6. Habilitación de las salas de Cólera en los hospitales.
7. Fortalecimiento de las Unidades de Atención Primaria y poner en funcionamiento las Unidades de Rehidratación Oral Comunitaria (UROC).
8. Reforzamiento del Sistema de Referencia y Retorno.
9. Mejoramiento de la capacidad resolutiva de la Red Nacional de Laboratorios Clínicos.
10. Desarrollar una campaña nacional de comunicación y educación para la prevención del Cólera.
