La conflagración entre las Fuerzas Armadas Sudanesas y las Fuerzas de Apoyo Rápido estalló en Jartum el 15 de abril pasado, extendiéndose rápidamente al resto del territorio sudanés con consecuencias humanitarias desastrosas.
En palabras del responsable de OCHA, “la guerra ha sumido a Sudán en una de las peores pesadillas humanitarias de la historia moderna”.
Martin Griffiths emitió un comunicado en el que destacó el continuo derramamiento de sangre y la violencia, los informes de violaciones y violencia sexual constantes, y los crecientes enfrentamientos étnicos, especialmente en Darfur.

Asimismo, subrayó los obstáculos que enfrentan los trabajadores de socorro para llegar a los necesitados dada la inseguridad y las restricciones. La guerra ha sido trágica también para ellos: al menos 45 han sido asesinados o detenidos desde mediados de abril, la mayoría de origen sudanés.
“Y en las zonas a las que podemos acceder, los trabajadores humanitarios sufren de falta de financiamiento, ya que este año sólo se ha recibido el 33% de los 2600 millones de dólares requeridos para ayudar a la población necesitada en Sudán”, explicó Griffiths.
